Fashion has given up skirting around the issue and has seemingly declared the vagina its erogenous zone of 2016.
Yes, we’re about three red carpet events away from the Emperor’s New Clothes.
Meet the extreme double split dress, the higher the better (aka the visible vag dress, or VVD).
First seen on Kendall Jenner at the Video Awards in Toronto back in June 2014, the VVD features two side splits slashed high enough to reveal the pelvic bone, leaving a long wisp of material at the front – like a mullet – which is entirely at the mercy of sudden gusts of wind.
It was a game-changer. It was bold. It was more red carpet mons pubis than we’d ever seen before. It was possibly too soon.
Fast forward to 2016 and celebs everywhere are now embracing the VVD. The vajayjay is officially hot right now.
Bella Hadid stopped traffic in hers at Cannes earlier this year. She later said of the experience: ‘I was sort of scared about it, but I’ve had so much nice feedback which was exciting.’
This is the crux of the VVD’s allure – it is both terrifying, yet thrilling, at the same time. It’s the sense of danger.
It’s also the perfect way to show off a great wax.
Models Giulia Salemi and Dayane Mello were the latest to toy with triumph and disaster at the Venice Film Festival this weekend.
So much material. So much split.
Unlike Bella – who wore a high-waisted leotard under her dress – Dayane and Giulia opted for the Shibue. That is, the world’s first strapless knicker (it’s literally a triangle of material held in place by silicone gel adhesive.)
Which sounds comfy.
However, some people think red carpet dressing may have gone too far.
Stylist Naomi Isted told MailOnline: ‘Celebrity stylists are always looking for ways for their star clients to get global press and coverage.
‘There’s a trend this year for everyone to wear sheer dresses with bodysuits underneath and this is an extreme extension of that. I would personally avoid this very bold look.’
Although, if you insist, she suggests wearing a pair of big pants in your skin tone underneath and taping the top of the slits down.
And, before you ask, the look has already trickled down to the high street – you can get your own VVD for the office Christmas party at Boohoo now.
Guaranteed to turn heads. In fact, maybe sprinkle a little glitter over your crotch and really make an entrance.
So festive.
