Steps On How To Start Your Own Pig Farming Business

Piggery otherwise known as pig farming is a farming aspect that Nigerians don’t see as a good investment but believe me this is one of the most lucrative business in Nigeria right now, a lot of entrepreneurs and investors make good money from the business everyday.Pig Farming

Do you know Pig meat is of high demand in the market, Pig reproduces in large numbers as pig can give birth to 14 piglets at a time and their growth is very fast.  Investing in this kind of business is like having a money making machine in your backyard.

A male Pig is called Boar, while a female pig is called Sows and baby pig  is known as Piglet, Shoat or Farrow. When you have a colony or group of pig you call them Drove or Herd.

In spite of the enormous profitability of Piggery, lots of Nigerian continue to overlook it because of ignorance of how it works. While a few do not simply get the simple fact that it’s a huge business, some who participate in it do it as part-time business.

A fully grown Pig goes for as high as N35,000 . Now just assume for a year You’re able to rear hundred to adulthood, it means you’ll be making above N3 Million from the sales. In the event that you’re able to take it higher, lets say like 1000 pigs annually, you’re going to be making above N30 Million.

Considering how fast pigs reproduces, it won’t be a big deal to come up with 100 pigs annually.

Now, Let’s now go through how you can really establish your own pig farming business.

1. Secure a Breeding-ground

Based on the way you intend to feed your pellets, a plot of land might just be okay for small scale starting but in case you are able to acquire a large farm land (from 5 acres) that will be better so that your pig can graze in the open and retire to the pen where they’d keep on playing and feeding. Land is your biggest investment in this business. Once you have it, then you are half way done. Search for land in a rural area where you can get it cheaper.

2. Build Standard Pens

Big pen is essential if you don’t want your pigs to injure themselves. A nice and spacious pen is also essential to keep the pigs healthy and free from contamination and diseases. Good drainage is required to prevent water becoming stagnant in your pen which could draw in insects as well as other creatures that are harmful.

In order to prevent your pellets getting too dirty, you need to construct a water pool where they can play , swim as pigs likes swimming, and cool themselves which is very important to their well being.

3. Buy Healthy Piglets

To guarantee healthy farm, then you will need to be certain that the piglets you’re about to start with are healthy. Buy from reputable source and be sure that the ones you’re buying has history of vaccination and also talk to veterinary Doctor.

4. Employ Workers

Employ 5 — 6 persons if your pigs are around 100. In case you’re starting on a smaller scale, you may need lesser number of workers.

5. Feeding Is Very Important For Pig Farming

Exactly like human being, Pigs eat a wide selection of foods, anything human can eat, they can eat. Just like human being as well, they require balanced diet and also give them access to clean fresh water, check and replace their water frequently. Feed will take the major chunk of your spending in the farm.

If all these steps are followed you are good to go with your Pig farming business.
