We’re still searching for Deborah’s killers, those arrested are not the suspected killers – Sokoto police
Sokoto State Police Command revealed that they are still looking for the killers of Deborah Samuel, the 200-level student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto state, who was gruesomely murdered by her fellow students.
Deborah was murdered in May 2022 after she was accused of making a comment on the school’s WhatsApp platform that her Muslim colleagues thought to be blasphemous of Prophet Mohammed (SAW).
Punch spoke to DSP Sanusi Abukar, the command’s spokesperson, about the case. He said that those who were arrested months ago by police were not prime suspects.
Abubakar said that they were only among the organizers of the riot. He also stated that the court ordered that the arrested remain in remand custody.
Abubakar stated that the prime suspects are still at large and that they were being sought to be arrested.
According to the police spokesperson, “Those ones we arrested then, though not the suspected killers, contributed to the violent riot and were arraigned in court where the judge ordered that they should be remanded. Concerning those suspected killers, we have circulated their pictures to media houses and sent our intelligence to every part of the state.
“We are still on the lookout for them and we are confident of arresting them wherever they may be hiding. We will flush them out and arraign them before a competent court of law.”
He assured that the command would not be biased in the case and that Muhammed Gumel, the state Commissioner for Police, would ensure justice is served.
