If for instance you feel like going back to old drinking habits as a result of stress or depression, then you can promise yourself to watch a movie and stick to this plan. Let a member of your family or support group be aware of this challenge so that they can help you pull through.

Now that you do not want relapse, you have to form a support group that can help you stay sober. For the people who may have had a bad experience with alcoholism, a support group will come in handy to help them stay sober. The fact that you have people to support you as you stay sober and away from alcohol means that you will contact these people when you face challenges of any kind.

  1. Avoid reminders of your old life

For the people who may not have had a bad experience with alcohol, they can research on what leads people to it and try stay away. You should not be near anything that can get you back to the old habits. You can even change your residence if the old one reminds you of the old habits.

  1. Keep busy most of the time

One of the things that make people abuse alcohol is idleness. You should ensure that you are busy most of the times. When this is the case, you will not get into the habit of wanting to drink.
